Sacred Heart Prayer Shawl Ministry meets from 1:30-3:00 PM on the first Monday of every month in classroom #8 in the school hall. We do not meet when there is a holiday on that Monday, or when the church building is closed.
The enjoyment of knitting and crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. The knitter begins each shawl with prayers for the recipients. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl or other items made, for example, baby sweater sets and baby blankets, lap robes, hats and scarves.
These items are distributed to nursing homes in the area, members of the parish, those facing personal challenges, hospice, and joyful events. Baby items are usually given to the Women of Sacred Heart baby shower in the Spring for the LifeCare Pregnancy Center in Moore County, located in the county seat of Carthage. Hats and scarf sets are taken to the Coalition of Churches in Southern Pines.
New members are always welcome. A basic knowledge of knitting or crocheting is helpful, but do not feel you need to be an expert. There are several excellent knitters in the group who are willing to help you with your project. We hope you will consider joining this very satisfying ministry.
