Dear Parishioners,
The Elphie Sale, a collaborative white elephant sale supported by the Women of Sacred Heart and the Knights of Columbus and now in its 20th year, is a very special event. Over the years, thousands of dollars have been raised for Sacred Heart Church, for the Juan Diego Mission and for religious education needs. In addition, monies were donated to over ten charitable organizations in Moore County. As a result, all of the organizations have looked forward to our donations.
For your information, the sale is held over a weeklong period as a result of the generous donations of our parishioners. Sunday through Wednesday, volunteers organize items for sale. The actual sale is Thursday, August 27, Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29. For the past four years, furniture has become an integral part of the sale. Strong volunteers have collected much of these items, and they were kept in storage units for periods of time. This year is no different. In fact, before the onset of COVID 19, two storage units were acquired to store large donations. We are still accepting furniture.
A Women of Sacred Heart committee was formed recently, and it was decided that a sale must take place or storage unit costs would be prohibitive if the sale was postponed until 2021. The Committee decided that an earlier sale date is warranted because November, the usual sale date period, might be a more healthy restrictive time. Safety protocols were discussed at length and adopted.
Volunteers play an integral part of this sale and many are needed this year as shifts will be shorter and involve more people. Over 242 parishioners helped in some way during the 2019 sale. Most of these wonderful people who donated their time to this special venue were our older parishioners who, this year, may not be able to contribute their time. THIS IS A SINCERE APPEAL TO OUR YOUNGER PARISHIONERS. PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING YOUR TIME AT SOME POINT DURING THE WEEK OF AUGUST 23RD AND ESPECIALLY DURING THE SALE.
For further information, please contact Nancy Heilman at nancyheilman42@gmail.com, text at 910-315-2874 or call 910-295-0704.
Thank you and God bless the parishioners of Sacred Heart.
